10 Reasons You Cant Afford To Miss The Summer Graduate Fair
10 Reasons You Cant Afford To Miss The Summer Graduate Fair If youre a final year student, chances are that youre putting the finishing touches to your dissertation, completing your final exams, making the most of your last few weeks away from home and starting to plan out your career path after university at the moment. Whats that? You dont actually have a clue about what youre going to do next? Dont panic! You see, Ill be honest; the next few weeks/months are going to be a pretty scary time as you try and figure out what you want to do with your life and where you want to do it but Ill let you in on a secret 80% of the students that are graduating this year wont have a clue what type career they want and where to even begin looking for new opportunities so youre not alone! Unfortunately, theres no magic one size fits all answer I can give you about the right decision and the correct path for your career because everyones different but what I would advise you to do is to take a bit of time out to really review your options and try and gain some insight into the type of careers available and the different industries you could work in. The best way to do that? Attend a careers fair thats especially designed for graduates. Now, there are lots of these available throughout the year but our friends over at Prospects are holding their annual Summer Graduate Fair on 11th June at Olympia London and we think its something you should definitely consider visiting if youre due to graduate in a few months (or even in 2015!). Think the Summer Graduate Fair sounds like every other careers fair out there? Think again! Here are our top 10 reasons you definitely dont want to miss this years Summer Graduate Fair! 1. Its Free! Yep, you read that right the Summer Graduate Fair is completely free and wont cost you a penny to attend but be sure to register to make sure youre not denied entry! 2. Diverse Range of Employers: Not sure which industry you want to enter into? Dont worry a diverse range of employers are all signed up to exhibit at the fair. Royal Air Force, Aldi, AgustaWestland, Hitachi Rail, Holts Academy of Jewellery, Heathrow you name it; theyre all going to be at the Summer Graduate Fair to answer your questions on the types of jobs and careers they have on offer. Whats more, lots of universities are also going to be available on the day to chat to you about whether a degree or masters degree would be a viable option as an alternative to the world of work. 3. Free CV Advice: OK, so theres lots of free CV advice available on the internet (weve even got a section on our blog) but the problem with a lot of it is that its really generic and not actually all that helpful. At the fair, thereâll be CV experts on hand to give you free help and advice on what you should and shouldnt be putting in your CV and how you need to tailor it for each application. 4. Access To Hidden Jobs: This is your chance to find hidden job opportunities and get your hands on them before anyone else! Yep, apparently there are going to be lots of employers at the event who have graduate jobs up for grabs that they havent advertised elsewhere yet so its definitely worth going along to see whats available. Oh, and did I mention they also have graduate jobs going that start in 2015?! Take note second years! 5. Exclusive Seminars: You dont get many things in life/your career that are free so when you do, it worth taking advantage! At the fair there are going to be exclusive seminars from a number of key speakers, including Apprentice finalist Claire Young and Adam Soliman from Charbrew, who are going to be sharing their words of wisdom on everything from interviews to starting your own business â" so regardless of your area of interest, weâd definitely advise you to drop into at least one of these! 6. Internship Opportunities Available: Want to get your hands on a nice little internship? The Graduate Summer Fair might just be the place to do it! Yep, in addition to graduate jobs, lots of the employers attending the fair will also have internship opportunities available which could help you to get your foot in the door of a super competitive industry! 7. Chance To Speak To Employers Directly: Have a burning question that you really want to ask your dream employer? Like how much a graduate role really pays at their company or what their company culture is actually like? You can do it all at the fair. Yep, the fair really is your chance to speak to employers directly and make a good first impression face to face (believe me; faces are harder to forget than faceless CVs!) so dont let the opportunity pass you by! 8. Free Matching Service To Save You Time: Really want to go to the fair but dont have time to spend a full day there? Dont panic! When you sign up for the event, you can take advantage of the free matching service which has been designed to save you valuable time. All you need to do is fill out the form with your area of interest and the type of jobs youre interested in and then youll be emailed a list of the relevant employers and the vacancies available clever eh? This means youll be able to attend the event and spend your limited amount of time with the employers that are really relevant to your area of interest. 9. Chance To Get Insights Into Specific Roles: When it comes to jobs and job roles, its fair to say things can get pretty confusing because theres so much jargon flying around so it would be nice to just have a sit down with someone about the jobs that are available and whats involved, wouldnt it? Well, guess what? You can do just that at the Summer Graduate Fair. Yep, whether youre interested in graduate roles at Aldi or the engineering vacancies available at Hitachi Rail, you can ask employers and employees directly about the roles on offer at the fair. 10. Opportunity To Start Networking: Think youre too young to start networking? Or think its impossible to start networking because you dont know what you want to do? Think again! Trust me; its never too soon to start networking and making connections that could help you out later in your career! The sooner you start building your network, the more opportunities that will be made available to you so get networking! Still not convinced about the Summer Graduate Fair? Why not give it a go anyway? Remember; itâs free and could help you to work out what kind of industry area you might want to work in. *Sponsored Content*
